Scripture: Isaiah 55:8-11

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.For as the heavens are higher than the earth,   so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.10 For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven,  and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout,  giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,11 so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,  and succeed in the thing for which I sent it

Hymn: “Wonderful Words of Life” UMH #600

1. Sing them over again to me,
wonderful words of life;
let me more of their beauty see,
wonderful words of life;
words of life and beauty
teach me faith and duty.
Refrain:
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life.
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life.

2. Christ, the blessed one, gives to all
wonderful words of life;
sinner, list to the loving call,
wonderful words of life;
all so freely given,
wooing us to heaven.
(Refrain)

3. Sweetly echo the gospel call,
wonderful words of life;
offer pardon and peace to all,
wonderful words of life;
Jesus, only Savior,
sanctify forever.
(Refrain)

Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:14-17

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it, 15 and how from childhood you have known the sacred writings that are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 so that everyone who belongs to God may be proficient, equipped for every good work.

Offering

Be still and know that He is Holy

Be still and know that He is God
Be still
Be speechless

Be still…. Be still

       Worship Music: “Come to the Table”

We all start on the outside, the outside looking in.

This is where grace begins.

We were hungry, we were thirsty, with nothing left to give

Oh, the shape that we were in.

And just when all hope seemed lost,

Love opened the door for us.

CHORUS

He said: Come to the table.

Come join the sinners who have been redeemed.

Take your place beside the Savior.

Sit down and be set free.  Come to the table.

Come meet this motley crew of misfits,

These liars and these thieves.

There’s no one unwelcome here.

That sin and shame that you’ve brought with you,

You can leave it at the door and let mercy draw you near.

(Repeat Chorus)

Come to the table.

Bridge

To the thief and to the doubter, to the hero and the coward,

To the prisoner and the soldier, to the young and to the older.

All who hunger, all who thirst, all the last and all the first.

All the paupers and the princes,

All who’ve failed – YOU’VE BEEN FORGIVEN !

All who dream and all who suffer,

All who’ve loved and lost another.

All the chained and all the free,

All who follow, all who lead.  Anyone who’s been let down,

All the lost, you have been found.

All who’ve been labeled right or wrong.

To ev’ryone who hears this song.

Come to the table.

Come join the sinners who have been redeemed.

Take your place beside the Savior.

Sit down and be set free. Sit down and be set free.

Come to the table. Come to the table.

Sit down and be set free

Come to the table.

Scripture: Matthew 7:24-27

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. 25 The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall!”

Sermon: “Our Doctrine Part 3: The Bible”

Sacrament of Holy Communion UMH p.12

Invitation:

Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him,

who earnestly repent of their sin

and seek to live in peace and with one another.

Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another

Confession and Pardon:

Merciful God,

we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart

we have failed to be an obedient church.

we have not done your will,

we have broken your law,

we have rebelled against your love,

we have not loved our neighbors,

and we have not heard the cry of the needy.

Forgive us, we pray.

Free us for joyful obedience,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Hear the good news;

Christ died for us while we were yet sinners;

that proves God’s love toward us.

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

Glory to God. Amen

The Great Thanksgiving: United Methodist Hymnal p13:

The Lord be with you.

And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.  And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.  Hosanna in the highest.  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.  Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ.  By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth to your Church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit.

On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said:

“Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you.   Do this in remembrance of me.”

When the supper was over he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said: “Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.  Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me”.

And so, in remembrance of these your almighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and grape juice.  Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, which we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood.

By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one

in ministry to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory, and we feast at his heavenly banquet. Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and forever.   Amen.

And now, with the confidence of children of God, let us pray: The Lord’s Prayer.

Benediction
